Positive Behavior Encouragement: Class Coupons
Students will be encouraged to maintain a positive classroom culture by being kind to others and doing things to contribute to our environment. Students will be recognized informally by earning pom-pom balls which they can collect and then turn in for different class privileges such as lunch bunch, prize box, bum in class, tech time, bring a bear, using markers, sitting by friends, etc! We will also have class challenges and goals to reach as a class to motivate positive behavior. These will be ongoing and ever-changing, so ask your child what we're working on next! :)
Negative Behavior Management: "Reflect & Refocus"
Students get two reminders from the teacher for negative behavior not complying under our main 3 rules: "Safe, Responsible, Respectful" such as distracting others, saying unkind things, not focusing on work, behaving in a unsafe manner, etc. On the third reminder students will be asked to fill out a "Reflect & Refocus" form. The purpose of the form is not to embarrass, single out, or to make them feel bad about themselves, but rather for them to have a chance to stop, think over their actions, and reflect on how to manage the behavior better in the future. It serves as a pause and time for thinking before acting further.
Refocus forms are sent home to be signed by the parent to communicate behaviors and are to be returned to school the next day. I may communicate with you if somehow the refocus form hasn't made it's way back to me. As always, please feel free to reach out to me if the purpose of the refocus or situation was unclearly explained. I have the kids write the reflection on their own, only prompting when they need it.
